Miguel Nguyen

BIO
Born in Abbotsford, BC, Miguel at a young age had a passion for the performing arts, studying in disciplines such as hip-hop jazz contemporary and ballet. To help expand his training Miguel attended the National Ballet School of Canada and eventually finishing his education with Goh Ballet. After finishing his schooling, Miguel was accepted to attend Orlando Ballet II under the direction of Peter Stark, taking his first steps into the professional dance world.
While working with international teachers as well as performing with the professional company, Miguel competed in YAGP and received a scholarship to attend the program Jacob’s Pillow. There with the director Anna-Marie Holmes, a staple and well renown teacher in the ballet community, Miguel received his first full contract as a professional dancer in the State Ballet of Georgia.
Miguel spent two full seasons in the company, performing works by Yuri Possokhov, Alexei Ratmansky, August Bournonville, and George Balachine. Miguel would continue performing and guesting in schools and companies in Montreal and Mexico eventually returning to Vancouver to dance with Coastal City Ballet under the direction Li Yaming.
During his time with Coastal City Ballet, Miguel danced roles in A Midsummer Night’s Dream as Puck, Chopinana and works by Wen Wei Wang and Li Yaming. Miguel would move to Argentina and dance 7 years as a Principal dancer in the company Ballet Centro del Conocimiento and guesting throughout Paraguay and Brazil.
Miguel was well known for his strong technique and his charismatic personality, he would dazzle audiences with his portrayal of many lead characters such as Basilio in Don Quixote, Albrecht in Giselle, Siegfried in Swan Lake, Lucien in Paquita and Solor in Bayadere. Miguel received the gold medal in IDO (International Dance Organization) in Oslo in Norway for best contemporary solo in 2008, and received invitations to compete in International Competitions in Helsinki, Finland and Seoul, Korea. Miguel has spent over 10 years dancing professionally and is current living in Vancouver BC.
